Quicker Than I Thought

In February, I wrote:

I do not want to be writing a blog post next year that says, once again, that it would be great to have a head librarian who lasts more than a year and a half.

At this point, I think Worcester might settle for a head librarian that deigns to grace us with a presence of a year and a half.

    So, what’s the dirt, Nicole?

I haven’t heard anything through the rumor mill. But the day is young…

I do feel so much for everyone who works at WPL. They deserve better than a revolving door of bosses. I don’t want to make light of this situation for them.

There have been so many changes at WPL over the past few years — a whole reconfiguration of the first floor, including the automated materials handling and a real shift in the way information desk and reference works; One City, One Library; bookmobiles; etc. — and no one has been there to lead the library staff through that upheaval.

I had put together some private thoughts about the head librarian search a couple of years (and a couple of head librarians) ago. If I can find a way to make it safe for the internet, I’ll post it.

I think members of the public, and members of the library staff, should try as much as possible to share their own thoughts about what WPL needs with members of the WPL board.

And if I say anything more, it’ll sound like I’m running for office…
