Happy Birthday, FPBL!

Ninety-nine years ago yesterday
, Andrew Carnegie laid the cornerstones of three Worcester Public Library branches: Quinsigamond, South Worcester, and Greendale.

Of these, only Greendale remains a library branch, and has been renamed in honor of Frances Perkins.

I remember going to the South Worcester library as a kid with my dad. Haven’t been to the Greendale branch yet and it’s even in my neighborhood! Great cartoon, too–cartoonists back then (and a few today like Oliphant) often had mascots commenting on the action, like that bird walking with Carnegie.
