Hot on the heels of news that Worcester has the third-highest ‘real’ (emphasis on the scare quotes) income in the nation comes another report that Worcester is the fourth most affordable housing market in Massachusetts.
What that means is that “the average listing price for a four-bedroom, two-bathroom house in the Worcester market was $296,039.”
Now, when I was a girl, we were told that a house should cost no more than twice your annual income.
We know that the median household income in the Worcester area is $63,360.
Twice that is $126,720.
That number isn’t even half the price of the average four-bedroom house in Worcester.
On what planet is this affordable?
