If you look at the past week, this is what you would find:
- Telegram reports on Lawrence Street shootout here (available on the T&G website early this morning); WorcesterPD tweeted about 9am (press release issued about 8:36am on the web).
- Telegram reports on death of Mark Bisnette here (January3). Worcester PD tweets and issues press release on the web a day later.
- We find that three people were stabbed in a New Year’s Eve party on January 4 (as far as I can tell, not in the T&G, but there wasn’t a lot of identifying information in the press release, either).
- Armed robbery on December 23rd on the website on the 28th and tweeted on the 29th. Reported same day of the incident (23rd) on telegram.com and in the paper the following day (24th).
I’d been under the impression that the Worcester PD wanted to undercut the Telegram by posting news items online first, or at least to solicit tips while the iron was hot, so to speak. If either were the case, I’m not sure that they’re succeeding. Perhaps they can take lessons from DPW? (Has anyone subscribed to the txtAlert for parking bans? How well has it been working?)
