Random Thoughts, 11/13

Habitat for Humanity, MetroWest/Greater Worcester, has opened a store for new and gently used building materials and home furnishings on 7 Gold Street in Worcester (off Green Street next to Good as Gold).  The store is called ReStore and you can contact them about donating materials by emailing them.

Toys for Tots is looking for donations.  My husband and I take the toys that our sons get for birthdays and Christmas and didn’t specifically ask for (and don’t particularly want) and stick them in a box and set them aside for Toys for Tots.  We’re at a toy saturation point in our house, and, though we’d rather people buy the boys things they actually need, at least the toys are going to find somewhere they will be appreciated.

Suitcases4Kids is an organization whose goal is to supply all foster kids in Massachusetts with suitcases (rather than garbage bags) to carry their belongings in.  WPI is holding a drive tomorrow from 10:30am-2:30pm in the lower-level Food Court of their Campus Center.

Just a couple of weeks ago, I was thinking about Cotton Mather and asked my husband if we could name a potential third son Cotton.  (That is, if I ever got pregnant again and if the child were a male.)  He gave me that “The reason I married you was so that you couldn’t inflict awful names on children, plus I don’t want to hear it from your parents that we didn’t give the kid an Orthodox name because they’ll blame it on me” look.  But obviously Cotton Mather was on Albert Southwick’s mind as well.
