For some of us, the prospect of free books is dangerous. If you are one of us, you may not want to read any further.
Ben Franklin Bookstore is giving away [all its] books today through Saturday from 10am-6pm.
If someone goes (and does not have a blog), please take pictures. This is a really depressing end of an era.
I couldn’t bear to take pictures; it would have been like snapping away at a funeral … Anyone whose every enjoyed a visit to Ben Franklin will find the same magical unexpected books as always, a little dirtier, possibly bringing tears if you’ve spent a significant part of your life going through its stacks. Make sure to remember to bring a flashlight or you won’t be able to see all that’s available. Good news is they’ve put away all their Worcester history books, which will be available online after they’ve establish a new “warehouse” in the Printers Building.
Today, I watched the video post on Worcester Wired. It’s called Rare Finds At Ben Franklin. The interview with Don, the owner, takes place in the store. It’s a permanent walk down memory lane. The staff and the store made a great contribution to Worcester’s downtown.
Thank you Nicole for providing the video link.
Thank you Noah for preserving a special part of Worcester’s history.
I spent many a Saturday afternoon roaming through the store looking for gently used arts and crafts books.
